Cord blood serum

Umbilical cord blood serum is an allogeneic product obtained from umbilical cord blood after childbirth. Following clot formation and removal of cellular components, the liquid fraction free of clotting factors is extracted. From a technological perspective, this serum is rich in growth factors and bioactive proteins and, depending on the preparation method, can be used as a cell culture supplement or a topical product. With its human origin and controlled manufacturing process, this serum also has applications in regenerative therapies and skin care. At present, this product is produced and supplied by Novacell for research use.

Product description

Composition & Features

Umbilical cord blood serum is derived from the liquid fraction of cord blood and contains high levels of growth factors, neurotrophic and surface‑protective components, cytokines, and plasma proteins. These components create an ideal environment for stimulating cellular regeneration.

Production Process

  1. Collection of umbilical cord blood immediately after delivery
  2. Clot formation and serum extraction
  3. Filtration, sterilization, and storage under controlled conditions
  4. Quality and safety testing prior to use
  5. Cold storage and cold‑chain maintenance

Applications

  • Substitute for or supplement to FBS in human cell culture
  • Wound‑healing modeling and tissue engineering
  • Use in skincare products and post‑laser or post‑peeling repair
  • Development of growth factor–rich derivatives
  • Ophthalmology: umbilical cord blood serum eye drops for ocular surface diseases
  • Wound and soft‑tissue repair

Effect Duration

Depending on the type of application (therapeutic or cosmetic), observable effects appear over different time periods. In dermatological treatments, regular use leads to gradual tissue improvement and skin brightening.

Method and Dosage of Clinical Use

  • Therapeutic applications: topical use or in combination with regenerative gels
  • Aesthetic applications: incorporation into creams and mask formulations, or topical application after skin treatments

The dosage and frequency of use are determined by the supervising physician.

Safety Considerations for Clinical Use
